Youth can let their creative skills shine

YOUTH are invited to share their creative side and enter Gladstone Regional Council's 2015 Year of Light Art Competition.

The competition, organised by Council's Youth Development team, will be open to regional residents aged 12 to 18 from July 13.

Gladstone Region Mayor Gail Sellers said entries were sought in various mediums including painting, drawings, photography, sculpture, print making and graphic design related to the Year of Light theme.

"The competition allows youth to share their artistic talents and provides them with the opportunity to have their artworks included in a public exhibition," Councillor Sellers said.

"They will also have the chance to win an iPad Mini as first prize, or an Encouragement Award of $100 worth of art materials."

Entrants will be eligible to enter one piece of art with works accepted until Friday, September 11.

In conjunction with the competition, Creative Gladstone will host four Year of Light inspirational art workshops for youth in July, August and September.

The competition will culminate with an exhibition on September 18 at Crow Street Creative, Shed 5, 8 Crow Street, Gladstone.

Entries will be displayed from 6pm to 9pm with the winners announced on the night.
