Your ultimate gift-buying guide for headphones

WITH so many new headphones on the market, it can be hard to determine which headphones you should buy.

Royce Wilson has looked at four headphones to help make your decision easier.

Turtle Beach Recon 200

AFFORDABLY priced, the Recon 200s are aimed at console gamers and offer all the features you'd want without breaking the bank.

As a bonus, the headset has an onboard amp and provides plenty of bass for gaming, along with good overall sound. A switch on the side allows the unit to be optimised for either PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, and it will happily work with PCs, smart devices and the Nintendo Switch too.

RRP: $99

Plantronics Backbeat Go 410

IF YOU know someone who regularly commutes to work, these would be an ideal present - noise cancelling wireless headphones.

They combine the portability of small earphones with the adjustable noise cancelling features of something larger, and are great for shortish trips where a full set of over-the-head style equipment would be too bulky, but you don't want to deal with the background noise either. A single charge runs for about 10 hours and they connect via Bluetooth while the end of the charging cable converts to a 3.5mm headphone jack for use in flight mode on aircraft.

RRP: $199

Sennheiser HD 820 and HDV 820

IF you're looking to impress the music enthusiast in your life with a really, really good set of headphones, it's pretty hard to go past this top of the range offering from Sennheiser which has glass tranducers and gold-plated connections amongst its top-end components.

Make no mistake: These are not casual headphones for the dilettante. This is serious kit for people who really appreciate their music and for maximum effect they can be combined with the similarly premium-level HDV 820 amp for a truly superb listening experience. With a premium price tag to match the quality on offer, these are truly something for the audiophile - but if you know someone with a really good hi-fi system and a love for all things music related, they're going to be ecstatic to find this under the tree on Christmas morning.

RRP: $3499 (HD 820

headphones), $ 3799 (HDV

820 amp)

Logitech G433

AN incredibly versatile set of headphones, the G433s are equally at home plugged into your computer (with an included USB 7.1 surround sound adaptor!), a console controller, or a smart device.

Whether you're in a serious gaming session or listening to music on the bus, the G433s will do the job extremely well with great sound quality.
