How hero Aussie truckie saved family, kids in car rollover

A HEROIC truck driver has come to the aid of a family of five after their car rolled over on the Burnett Highway yesterday.

Police and emergency services attended the scene to find the white 4WD Toyota LandCruiser on its roof at around 4pm, five kilometres north of Eidsvold.

Monto police revealed the car was travelling southbound along the Burnett Hwy, failing to negotiate a sweeping left hand bend.

The car then left the highway, rolling a number of times down a gravel embankment, before crashing into a tree.

Luckily for the passengers of the Toyota, Monto's Tim Harvey witnessed the crash while driving back from Brisbane in his truck.

According to Monto police, Mr Harvey heroically, and without hesitation, entered the vehicle to rescue the four children from the vehicle.

They miraculously only received minor injuries from the accident.

Mr Harvey then assisted the woman driver of the car, and performed first aid before emergency services arrived.

Monto's officer in charge Sgt Mick Bazzo said it was astonishing the children were uninjured in the crash, judging by the extensive damage on the car.

"Fortunately the children were all restrained in the appropriate car seats, which no doubt saved their lives on this occasion," Sgt Bazzo said.

Mr Harvey said when he arrived on the scene, his immediate thought was to assess the passengers in the car, and bring them to safety.

"I just got everyone out of the car, and made sure the kids, and the driver was all right," Mr Harvey said.

"I then made sure [the driver] was above board before the paramedics arrived."

When congratulated on his courageous act, he was nothing short of humble.

"You gotta do what you gotta do."

The driver of the vehicle sustained multiple injures, and was transported to Eidsvold hospital, where she was stabilised.

She was later flown to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital.

The incident is currently being investigated by police, who are awaiting blood test results to determine if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.

Monto police would like to commend Mr Harvey for his altruistic actions on the day.
