FIVE years of trying to have another baby has finally paid off for Allison and Tim Cunningham.

They welcomed their second daughter, Ava Louise on November 10 at the Gladstone Base Hospital.

By her side before and after the birth was also Allison's 20-year-old daughter Shara.

"I think it's a fantastic experience being able to now compare (having a child 20 years ago and now).

"Things have come so far with the equipment, it makes life much easier having a baby in 2015," she said.

"I was 20 when I had my first daughter.

"My partner and I have now been trying to have another child for five years," Mrs Cunningham said.

"It was a beautiful surprise (when I became pregnant) ... we thought it wouldn't happen again," she said.

Allison and Tim moved to Gladstone 18 months ago, after travelling around Australia. "When Shara left home we decided to travel around the country. We've been to the top end, north and the west," Mrs Cunningham said.

"But then we found some good jobs in Gladstone, and since then it's been good to us."

"Now it's time to settle down, again, with Ava," she said.

The new arrival to the Cunningham household has had plenty of visitors from family who travelled interstate. Their new daughter's second name, Louise, was chosen to keep a family tradition. Louise is the middle name of Alison, Shara and Alison's mother.

The parents were keen to take their daughter home by this afternoon.
