Woman steals from employer who made fun of missing cat
IT all started with a missing kitty. Still reeling from the loss of her furry friend, a 45-year-old Gladstone woman decided to steal money from her employer to "get back at him" for making fun of her missing pet.
That's what her lawyer Jun Pepito told the Gladstone Magistrates Court on Tuesday when his client Cathy Maree Smith appeared on four charges of stealing.
The court heard the defendant stole from her employer Paragon Foods on four occasions.
After noticing the front till was out on numerous occasions, the owners of the takeaway shop decided to install surveillance cameras.
Upon reviewing the tapes, the defendant could be seen taking $450 and placing it in her apron.
Smith's lawyer told the court his client wanted to be sacked because the business owner had deliberately made meowing sounds in earshot of the defendant.
A conviction was recorded and Smith was placed on probation for 15 months.
