Who will dive into Tannum pool plan - council or developer?

The Boyne Island - Tannum Sands district, according to the 2011 Census, contained almost 10,000 people.

No doubt by now, given the rate of population growth in the whole of the Gladstone region, that number will have increased to more than 10,000.

At that level, one would think a swimming pool - other than the huge saltwater pool at the bottom of the hill - would be an essential part of the community.

But the district languishes without such an important facility.

It seems quite sensible to consider a pool in that area simply for the reason that it is an ideal place to teach young people to swim before they take on the water at nearby beaches.

As far as we can ascertain, there is no civic plan at this stage to even consider building a pool for the community and this could well be seen as short-sighted.

The question has to be asked: is the development of a pool facility the responsibility of our regional council, or will we have to wait for a private developer to undertake such a project?
