Where kids can take part in Simultaneous Storytime
Hundreds of youngsters will gather at Gladstone regional libraries this week to take part in fun and activities organised for National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS).
Hats of all descriptions will be the topic of discussion during reading of the children's book, I Got This Hat, at all regional libraries.
Gladstone Region Mayor Matt Burnett said NSS was an annual campaign and a highly popular initiative of The Australian Library and Information Association.
National Simultaneous Storytime and activities will occur at various times on Wednesday, May 25 at the following Council libraries:
• Agnes Water Library - 11am (regular Story Time at 10.15am)
• Boyne Island Library - Port Curtis Room at the Boyne Tannum Community Centre, from 10.30am to 11.30am for
reading of the story, songs, craft and morning tea
• Calliope Library - 11am
• Gladstone City Library - Library Square from 9.30am to 11.30am, book reading at 11am
• Miriam Vale Library - 10am
• Mount Larcom Library - Thursday, May 26 during regular Story Time from 10.30am to 11.30am
"NSS aims to promote the value of reading and literacy and encourage more young Australians to read and enjoy books," Councillor Burnett said.
A book is selected annually which addresses key learning areas of the National Curriculum for primary and pre-school learners and is read at locations across Australia at the same time on the same day.
Council's Environment & Community Services Committee Chair Councillor Cindi Bush said NSS has proven extremely popular at Gladstone regional libraries.
"Regionally, the day has become a much anticipated annual event and last year was the biggest and most successful NSS across Australia," Cr Bush said.
"The majority of events will be held at regional libraries on Wednesday, May 25 with exception of Mount Larcom Library where activities will be delivered during the library's regular Thursday Story Time session."
