What can I see and do in Gladstone this weekend?
This annual three day festival kicks off on Friday at 5pm at Air Sea Rescue Park. Friday night festivities are free and include re-enactment, Gooreng Gooreng dance, Sweetwater Collective, Rhythmic Earth Dance Performance. The bar will be open until 8pm. Free entry.
Art on the river
Come along and join members of BT Artscape to enjoy the newest installations along the Boyne River! BT Artscape have been partnering with local sponsors and artists to create areas in Boyne Tannum which install peace, enjoyment and stimulation for residents and visitors alike. On Friday, May 20, two new installations will be unveiled with several others recognised in our walk to the Black Cockatoos. Meet at 4pm at the bubbler (near the Boyne bridge adjacent to Kalouri). Captain Cook 1770 Festival
The festival kicks off at 9.30am with a street parade from the Seventeen Seventy Marina to the SES Grounds. Throughout the day there will be live music, the re-enactment, circus acts and more. Tickets for one or two days are $11 for adults, $5.50 for 12 - 18yo and children under 12 are free.
Coles Kirkwood plans
See the plans for the proposed Kirkwood Rd Coles development at a public display this Saturday. Held from 11am - 2pm at Lot 912, Dixon Dr, New Auckland, this will be an opportunity for residents to view the plans and ask questions.
Rspca Cent Sale
GET ready for the Friends of RSPCA's next Cent Sale which will be held at the Senior Citizens Centre on Saturday May 21. There will be over 400 prizes up for the taking and you will be assured of an entertaining afternoon and also a very good possibility of going home with a prize.
Birds of Gladstone launch
There will be a launch of a new book 'Birds of Gladstone' at the Tondoon Botanical Gardens on Saturday morning, May 21 from 9am til 10am. The launch will take place in the Visitor Centre next to the café and Allan Briggs will provide a PowerPoint presentation describing some of the 232 species of birds that are in the book as well as birding locations, types of habitat and the threatened species that can be found in the Gladstone area. It's an open invitation to everyone to have a great night out on the water and help support a local boy, Brent
Holland (pictured). There will be a licenced bar operating, your ticket includes a barbecue dinner, live music and DJ by Jayd McKenzie, lucky door prize and a meat raffle. Tickets are $49 each, and for 18 years and over only. Proceeds from this cruise fundraiser will be donated to Brent for assistance with his cancer treatment in Brisbane. Tickets are available through the Gladstone Entertainment and Convention Centre. When? Saturday, May 21. Passengers load from the Gladstone Yacht Club from 6.15pm to 6.30pm and the boat arrives back at 10.30pm.

Calliope Rotary Market
Calliope's indoor market will return this weekend, held on Sunday from 9am - noon at the Calliope RSL Hall.
Boyne Island Tannum Sands Orchid and Foliage Club presents "A Symphony of Colour" Orchid and Foliage Show and Expo. Held at the St Francis Catholic Primary School Hall, this will be a festival of colour and fragrance. This Annual Show starts at 8am Saturday May 21 and 9.30am Sunday May 22. There will be huge variety of orchids, plants and accessories for sale by Club Members and Vendors who have travelled from far away to bring their special plants.
Full moon yoga
Practice yoga under the stars on Sunday night at the Gladstone Marina Parklands. From 6 - 7.20pm a yoga session will be held that is suitable for all levels of fitness and flexibility. This is a fundraiser for Project Golden Boot, helping orphans in the Philippines get to the Street Children World Cup. For information click here
