LOOKING for something to do in the Gladstone region this weekend? Here's a rundown of some of the events and activities available.

FRIDAY:

Get your skates on for disco

GLADSTONE PCYC Roller Derby is holding a fundraising roller disco on Friday from 6.30pm to 9pm.

The theme is Rocktober - dress as your favourite rockstar and enjoy games, prizes and great music.

It's at the PCYC on Yarroon St. Tickets are $10 at the door (includes skate hire).

Students head back to the 1950s in musical-comedy

MIRIAM Vale State School students are going back in time to tell a tale about people who get their Just Desserts in performances of a sparkling musical-comedy about the battle for the coveted Dairy Queen title.

The whole school is taking part in the play and students have been rehearsing since March.

Set in the 1950s, the storyline gets behind the "have a nice day" facade of checkout chicks and draws battlelines with the Dairy Mall mob.

Night time performances are being held on Friday and Saturday from 7pm at the Miriam Vale Community Centre.

All tickets are to be purchased at the Miriam Vale State School, or over the phone on 4974 6333 and can be picked up on the night. Admission is $12 for adults and $8 for pensioners, students and children, or a family of four is $25.

SATURDAY:

Dads' Day Out

DADS' Day out is on Saturday at the Gladstone PCYC from 10am to 2pm. The day provides dads and their children with a variety of interactive activities to spend quality time together.

Free activities include jumping castles, face painting, children's characters, obstacle course, ball games, parachute and music play activities.

Kin Kora State School Cent Sale

THIS is the biggest cent sale of the year at Kin Kora State School. The annual event has excellent prizes for the whole family, plus cake walk, raffles, lucky door prizes and afternoon tea.

Doors open at 12.15pm for a 1pm start. Entry is $2 for adults and $1 for school-age children. Email lfall14@eq.edu.au or call 4971 5111 for more.

Markets in the Park

THE Miriam Vale Markets in the Park are hosted by the local Lions Club on the third Saturday of each month.

Stroll through the delightful cool and shady park to view a variety of stalls, or tempt your taste buds with a sizzling fillet steak, sausage or bacon burger.

The markets run from 7am to noon at Blomfield St, Miriam Vale.

Cedar Galleries art exhibition

CEDAR Galleries will host its annual exhibition from Saturday. The exhibition will be opened by councillor Maxine Brushe at 5pm.

Free refreshments will be available. The artworks, which have been created or designed by Cedar Galleries artists, consist of paintings, sculptures, folk art, handbags and other stitched items.

Cedar Galleries is at 49544 Bruce Hwy, Calliope. It's open from 9am-4pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Get fit with Parkrun

STOCKLAND Gladstone and Parkrun Australia have launched a unique, community run program that provides free weekly timed 5km running events for people of all ages and abilities every Saturday morning from 7am-- 8am at Lions Park.

Tondoon Botanic Gardens guided walk

DISCOVER the beauty of the Tondoon Botanic Gardens, Gladstone, with a free guided walk from 10am.

Meet at the visitors' centre. The gardens are on Glenlyon Rd. More details here.

Cedar Galleries farmers markets

FARMERS Markets are held every Sunday at Cedar Galleries. The markets provide locally grown fresh produce, various market stalls, rides and jumping castles for the kids.

Come along for breakfast or coffee and cake at the cafe, and don't forget to say hi to the popular alpacas.

The markets run from 8am to noon at 49544 Bruce Hwy, Benaraby.

Rotary Kmart Markets

THE Rotary Club of Gladstone Midday Markets are held on the third Saturday of each month in the Kmart car park on Phillip St, Gladstone.

There is a wide range of goods on offer including food, coffee, cakes, jewellery, hand-made soaps, plants, toys, clothes and bric-a-brac.

There also is entertainment from local artists. The markets run from 6am to 1.30pm.

St Francis Community Market Day

THE annual St Francis Community Market Day is a great family day out, with all proceeds going to the school.

The day will include live music by SWIM, face painting, market stalls, amusement rides, food and drinks, a multi-draw raffle and an art show.

There also will be performance displays by Rhee Tae Kwon Do, Port City Power Cheerleaders and Japanese drummers, and a fashion parade by Sannice Boutique.

The event runs from 9am to 3pm at the school at Tannum Sands. Entry is by gold coin donation.
