FRIDAY

Learn how to make lip balm

A WORKSHOP teaching participants to create their own affordable, customised lip balms from natural, chemical-free ingredients will be held at Agnes Water.

The workshop will run from 5.30-8.30pm at the Agnes Water Boutique Night Markets.

The mini workshop will be a practical, hands-on experience in the process, technique and production of one pot of handmade lip balm.

Kids' Big Night Out

ON the second Friday of every month, children aged 2-12 years are invited to dinner and a fun night of movies, games and activities at Yaralla Sports Club.

Kids' Big Night Out is held from 6-9pm. Tickets are on sale from the concierge desk at the club. Book early to take advantage of discounts.

Cost is $10 per child or three children for $25 if pre-purchased, or $15 per child on the door.

This kids only event is fully supervised and includes dinner and drinks.

Action-packed night for youth

LIFESTYLE Church will be hosting its next Flipside event at the Lifestyle Centre, 83 Sun Valley Rd, Kin Kora from 7-9pm.

The event will be themed "Awkward" and includes action-packed games and competitions for students in Years 7-12.

Blue Care garage sale

BLUE Care Auxiliary will hold its next garage sale at 2 Margaret St on Friday and Saturday, starting at 7am and finishing at 3pm on Friday and noon on Saturday.

Donation of good saleable items may be left at the centre at any time, while arrangements can be made for the pick up of larger items by phoning the centre on 4979 4499 and leaving a message, or by phoning Ted on 4972 4757.

Movie session for parents and kids

MUMS, dads and bubs are invited to come along to the Gladstone cinemas to attend a child-friendly event at 9.30am.

Ticket are $8 or $20 for Gold room. The lights will be left on and dimmed and the sound is lowered  Visit the website for more information. 

Feast or famine at global dinner

TANNUM Sands State High School is hosting a global dinner party with a twist.

Each table will be allocated a country and treated accordingly for the night.

Will you be lucky and belong to the USA, or experience a night as Ethiopia?

Tickets are $30 per person for tables of eight. Snacks and dinner will be provided, and all proceeds donated to World Vision.

Student musical all about pyjamas

CHANEL College Year 8-12 students will present The Pyjama Game musical at the Gladstone Entertainment Centre this weekend.

The Pyjama Game focuses on the activities at the Sleep-Tite Pyjama Factory, where Sid Sorokin falls in love with Babe Williams.

Their romance goes on a bumpy ride as the workers demand a 7.5c per hour pay rise from their stingy boss, Mr Myron Hasler.

Three performances of the musical will be held, on Friday at 11am and 7pm, and on Saturday at 7pm.

Gladstone Cup Day

THE Gladstone Cup race meet is on today at Ferguson Park, Dawson Rd, Gladstone, from 11am to 6pm.

There will be a full local race card with six races.

The cup day is the biggest event on the local racing calendar.

This year's Fashions on the Field major prize is return flights for two to Brisbane plus a night of accommodation.

Judging will take place at 3.30pm.

Grab a bargain at swap meet

THE fifth annual Rotary Swap Meet and Car Boot Sale is on at the Calliope River Historical Village, Carrara Rd, Calliope from 7am.

There will be swap meet sites of new and used cars, trucks, motor bike parts, model cars and historic car displays.

Don't miss the swap meet and market stalls with bric-a-brac, antiques, clothing jewellery, plants and fresh fruit and vegetables.

Twilight markets

ST Stephen's Kindergarten will host a twilight market fundraiser in the kindy car park from 2-5pm.

There will be stalls by local businesses, food stalls and a play area for the kids.

Friends of RSPCA cent sale

THE Friends of RSPCA will host a cent sale on Saturday at the Gladstone Bowls Club.

Doors open at 11am and the event begins at 1pm. There will be more than 400 prizes up for grabs, plus general raffles and a cake walk.

20th annual Golding Showcase

GLADSTONE Regional Art Gallery and Museum is hosting the Golding Showcase, a Port Curtis Callide Valley youth art exhibition.

Works in all media by local high school students aged 15-18 will be on display for a month, with the official opening on Tuesday.

The gallery at the corner of Goondoon and Bramston Sts is open from 10am to 5pm.

Spend a morning with acoustic tunes

JHAM Bar Gladstone will host Acoustic JHAMS, a morning of music by local artists each Saturday from 9am-noon.

Sit and have a coffee and watch the world go by while enjoying music by Animal Throwdown, White Room and Rob (Country) Hopkins at JHAM Bar, 117 Toolooa St, Gladstone.

Disney princess movie festival

THE Disney princess movie festival continues at Gladstone Cinemas this weekend.

Princess fans can join Aurora, Pocahontas, Ariel, Snow White and Belle as they come to the big screen this month.

This weekend Pocahontas will screen on Saturday and Sunday.

Library Square Markets

HELD in the heart of Gladstone's Central Business District at Library Square, Gladstone residents and visitors can purchase fresh produce, handmade arts and crafts and much more.

When you're done at the markets, there are a number of restaurants and cafes in the area to tempt your tastebuds.

The markets run from 7am to noon.

Get fit with Parkrun

STOCKLAND Gladstone and Parkrun Australia faciliate a unique, community run program that provides free weekly timed 5km running events for people of all ages and abilities every Saturday morning from 7am - 8am at Lions Park.

Benaraby State School country fair

THE 27th annual Benaraby State School Country Fair is back again with fun for the whole family.

The fair will feature homemade cakes and candy, a cent sale, Devonshire tea, licensed bar, live music, market stalls and more.

No fair would be complete without rides, and all day ride tickets are available for $35.

The fair runs from 9am to 3pm, with the ride tickets valid between 10am-2.30pm.

The school is at 17 O'Connor Rd, Benaraby. 

PCYC markets are back

THE PCYC Gladstone Markets have returned and are sure to be bigger and better than ever.

Head down between 8am and noon on the second Sunday of each month and browse the various local stalls, including craft, fresh produce, gardening, baby goods and more.

The markets will be held at the PCYC, corner of Yarroon and Side Sts, Gladstone.

Boating information session

BOATIES are invited to a free information session on Sunday at 2pm at the Volunteer Marine Building on Alf O'Rourke Drive, at the western end of the marina.

Subjects such as local knowledge, anchoring, putting a position on a chart, green zones and more will be discussed.

Learn about the narrows, north entrance, east channel, gatcombe heads and local reefs.

Printmaking workshop

 A PRINTMAKING workshop will be held from 10am-2pm at Creative Gladstone, 97 Auckland St.

Sunday Coffee Cruise

TAKE a cruise around the Gladstone harbour and surrounding island every Sunday and Wednesday on a a Curtis Ferry Services Coffee Cruise.

Enjoy a two-hour cruise with morning tea and commentary on the Gladstone region, while keeping an eye out for turtles, dolphins and dugongs.

Cruises are held 11am-1pm. Bookings are essential and can be made through the Gladstone Visitor Information Centre.

Passengers must collect their ticket from the Information Centre at 72 Bryan Jordan Drive) before departure, and ensure they arrive at Curtis Ferry Services Terminal by 10.45am.

If the Information Centre is closed, tickets and payments can be made from the departure point.

The Sunday Coffee Cruise will run until September 28.

Tickets cost $24 adults, $22 concession and $16 children aged 7-16.

Learn how to make felted soap

TAKE a bar of soap and turn it into a functional work of art by learning how to create affordable, customised felted soap from natural ingredients.

A two-hour workshop at 71 Springs Rd, Gladstone will include a practical, hands-on experience in the process, technique and production of handmade felted soap.

The workshop will be held from 10.30am-12.30pm at a cost of $15, which includes all materials and tea/coffee.

Discovery Coast Markets

THE Discovery Coast Markets are held on the second and fourth Sunday of each month, and every Sunday during school holidays, at the SES Grounds on Captain Cook Dr between Agnes Water and Seventeen Seventy.

Come and browse the arts and crafts, bric-a-brac and fresh produce available for purchase.

The markets are open from 8am until noon.

Sunday session at Yachties

GLADSTONE Yacht Club will have a Sunday session in Yachties Beer Garden with live music from 2pm.

There will be great drink specials and a great atmosphere to wind-down your weekend.
