LOOKING for something to do in the Gladstone region this weekend? Here's a rundown of some of the events and activities available.

FRIDAY:

Kitty Flanagan returns with new show

COMEDIAN Kitty Flanagan returns with her highly anticipated new show, and this time she answers all the difficult questions: What's wrong with teenagers? Why are babies so angry? What snackfoods should be avoided when dating?

She will perform at Gladstone Entertainment Centre from 8pm. Tickets for the 15+years show are $40, and can be booked here.

Ladies Night out shopping event

STAR of the Sea Primary School will host its 2013 Ladies Night Out shopping event with a night of wine, cheese, shopping raffles and lucky door prizes.

There will be a huge variety of stalls including The Body Shop, Enjo, Stampin Up, Rock that Frock, Tupperware, Lorraine Lea Linen, Zazzi Makeup, Mystifying Creations and Emma Page Jewellery.

The event will be held at the school, 181 Goondoon St, Gladstone, from 6pm to 9pm. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased by contacting Kelly on 0439 086 270.

Get your skates on

GLADSTONE'S roller derby league will host a roller disco fundraiser at Gladstone PCYC to help Harbour City Hustlers coach Charlie Keenan in his Movember efforts.

The league is sponsoring him $1 for every ticket sold to the disco.

The all-ages event starts at 6.30pm. Entry is $10 which includes skate hire, games and prizes.

Playtime in the Park

PLAYTIME in the Park will be held at the Tondoon Botanic Gardens, Gladstone from 10am to noon.

There will be face painting, arts, toddler gym, water play, books, bubbles, playdough and information on children's services available in the Gladstone region.

Those attending should take morning tea, hats and water.

The event is hosted by GAPDL Communities for Children and Gladstone Women's Health Centre.

Top DJ brings awesome beats to the Reef

HIP-hop urban DJ Samrai will mext beats at the Reef Hotel on Friday night.

The dance-mixing DJ boasts live shows with the Crusty Demons and has had gigs at Stereosonic, Good Vibrations, the Motorola Snowboard World Cup, Quicksilver Pro and ParkLife.

SATURDAY:

Big night of boxing action

HARBOUR City City Havoc is back at the Gladstone Entertainment Convention Centre with a spectacular night of boxing action.

There will be two world titles contested, as well as two international titles, a State of Origin match-up, an Anzac match-up and a preview of women's olympic boxing.

Gladstone's adopted heavyweight Mark DeMori will take on one of the best in European boxing.

Camerata concert brings a dash of drama

AN electric violin, a flamenco guitarist and a chamber orchestra are set to collaborate in a special performance in Gladstone.

The dramatic concert from Camerata of St John's will feature electric violinist Shenzo and flamenco guitarist Gerard Mapstone.

A free public conert will be held at Tannum Sands State High School Performance Centre from 7pm.

Guitar duo delivers full suite at two shows

THE fast, furious and passionate blues rock from Monster Guitars is back and ready to hit the Agnes Water Tavern on Saturday from 8pm and Calliope's Railway Hotel on Sunday from 4pm.

The Monster Guitars musical journey takes Adam Hole's Mississippi Delta acoustic blues into Mark Easton's electric power blues-rock, visiting Willie Dixon, Sonny Boy Williamson, then Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, White Stripes and now Monsters originals.

Miriam Vale Lions Club Markets in the Park

THE Miriam Vale Markets are held on the third Saturday of the month at Blomfield St, Miriam Vale.

Stroll through the cool and shady park to view a variety of stalls, or tempt your taste buds with a sizzling fillet steak, sausage or bacon burger.

The markets run from 7am to noon.

Test your running skills on obstacle course

IF you can run, crawl, climb and clamber over and through obstacles, and are prepared to get wet and sandy, Gladstone Road Runners have the event for you.

With the growing popularity of adventure/obstacle races such as Tough Mudder, the runners thought it was time to dip their toes in the water and put on a scaled down version of these events, to test the possibility of staging larger and more regular events next year.

Runathon 2 will be held at Canoe Point, Tannum Sands, from 4.30pm.

Water park fun

WATERWORLD splashes down in Gladstone on Saturday with a range of fun water activities at the Gladstone Showgrounds.

There will be three giant inflatable pools and slides to splash around in, plus fun activities like the Shark Slide and Octopus Pool.

If you're brave enough, you can speed down the 10m Colossal Dino Slide, or try walking on water with the Waterworld Zorb Balls.

You can pay as you ride, or buy an unlimited three hour wristband for $15 online or $20 at the gate. The park will be open from 10am to 4pm.

Get fit with Parkrun

STOCKLAND Gladstone and Parkrun Australia have launched a unique, community run program that provides free weekly timed 5km running events for people of all ages and abilities every Saturday morning from 7am-8am at Lions Park.

Splash Zone official opening

THE new Splash Zone at Gladstone Aquatic Centre will be officially opened from 10am to 2pm.

A special admission price of $5 for families and $2 for individual will apply on the day.

Children aged under 12 have the opportunity to be among the first to experience the fun of the Big Tipper Bucket, which can dump 500 litres of water at a time, from a height of six metres.

Children aged 12 and above are welcome to join in the fun with inflatables to be placed in the 50m pool along with other activities including face painting, hula hoop competition and an outside broadcast and prize giveaways by Zinc Radio.

The Gladstone Aquatic Centre is located at 60 Tank Street, Gladstone.

Sunday sessions on Q

SUNDAY sessions on Quoin Island feature live music and entertainment, great food and good old fun in the sun.

The sessions are great for the whole family with kids' activities, a bar and kitchen open all day and great live music and entertainment.

The event features three live music acts, including local talent Jack Blandford, special guest Mark Hutchinson and major act The Floating Bridges.

Kids can run wild in the pool, on the beach and on the jumping castle and have their faces painted.

Boat departs Gladstone at 10am, 11am and noon and return at 4pm, 5pm and 6pm.

Tickets cost $30 adults and $15 children aged 4-17. The event runs from 11am to 6pm. More details here.

Cutain comes up on dance performance

STUDENTS of the Wendy Barker Dance Studios will demonstrate their versatility in ballet, tap, jazz and contemporary in Curtain Up, presented from 2.30pm at Gladstone Entertainment Centre.

Rotary Club K-mart Markets

THE Rotary Club of Gladstone Midday Markets are held on the third Sunday of each month (except December).

There is a wide ranges of goods on offer from food, coffee, cakes, jewellery, hand made soaps and plants to kids toys, clothes and bric-a-brac. There is also entertainment from local artists.

The markets run from 6am to noon at Stockland Kin Kora.

Cedar Galleries farmers markets

FARMERS Markets are held every Sunday at Cedar Galleries. The markets provide locally grown fresh produce, various market stalls, rides and jumping castles for the kids.

Come along for breakfast or coffee and cake at the cafe, and don't forget to say hi to the popular alpacas.

The markets run from 8am to noon at 49544 Bruce Hwy, Benaraby.

Free women's personal protection workshop

GLADSTONE Martial Arts Academy will host a free women's personal protection workshop from 9am to noon.

Topics include awareness development, fear management, safety plans, the truth about violence, and how to counter attacks.

Participants will learn how to avoid dangerous situations, and how to protect themselves.

GLADSTONE Yacht Club will host its 2013 Beach Party from 2.30pm to 6pm at 1 Goondoon St, Gladstone.

Sponsored by Midori and XXXX Summer, the beach party will be the biggest Sunday Sesh of all.

There will be live music from 2.30pm, and lots of giveaways.

T20 cricket fundraiser

BITS Saints AFL and BITS Cricket will host a day of 20/20 cricket to raise funds for the wife of former teammate Tim Threadgold who, despite moving back to Adelaide early last year, remains a popular figure at both clubs.

Event organisers are hoping to play two games on Sunday with the A-grade cricket side taking the AFL boys while a "Tim's Teammates" team will play in the opening game.
