Weekend of violence in Gladstone region
GLADSTONE Criminal Investigation Branch was kept busy over the weekend with a spate of violent crimes.
A 25-year-old Tannum Sands woman underwent surgery after receiving serious injuries as a result of a domestic violence incident on Friday night.
Police were alerted to the incident late Friday afternoon by the mother of the victim.
A man was taken into custody under domestic violence provisions, although police had not laid charges as yet.
Police also had to deal with the usual bad behaviour in the Gladstone CBD on Friday night.
Four men in their late twenties were issued public nuisance charges after a brawl broke out near the intersection of Goondoon and Yaroon Streets about 1.10am Saturday.
Meanwhile a 50-year-old man was taken to hospital on Saturday night where he received sutures for a head laceration, after being glassed at the Reef Hotel.
The incident occurred about 11pm, and another male was taken into custody by police.
It was yet to be determined whether the victim was struck with a glass or a glass bottle.
Police said security had assisted during the matter; charges were yet to be laid.
