U13 boys unbeaten in 2011 campaign

THE Stanwell junior development under 13 team has completed an extremely successful 2011 campaign, winning two from two games in Townsville at the weekend.

The under 13s, the first to represent the CQ NRL Bid, have played and beaten three of the best schoolboys teams in the state. The team's northern tour kicked off on Friday when the team flew out of Rockhampton for Townsville.

The team beat Kirwan State High School on Friday after some great work from Gladstone front rower Jack Glossop.

On Saturday they took on Ignatius Park College, a school famous for providing players that progress onto the North Queensland Cowboys, and again took the win.

Stanwell junior development under 13 coach, Lionel Harbin, said he couldn't be happier with way the team has progressed.

"It's been really pleasing the way these boys have developed and come together as a team after the first camp in Yeppoon," Harbin said.

"The boys really improved from our first game against Keebra Park and are really starting to gel as a team.

"Our goal is to keep these boys together and continue to develop them.

"We would hope that they will come through and be some of our first NYC under 20 players when the CQ NRL team comes in."

The boys also continued their tour of top-tier facilities on Saturday when they visited the NQ Cowboys facilities.

Spokesman Walson Carlos said it had been a great experience.

"It has been great to see the three NRL sides the Broncos, Cowboys and Titans get behind what the CQ NRL Bid is trying to do with the development side," Carlos said.
