Two men escape injury as coal train derails at Ambrose
TWO men escaped injury after a freight train derailed at Ambrose, north-west of Gladstone, on Friday afternoon.
The train left the tracks around 12.20pm, but both men on board managed to avoid being hurt.
An emergency services spokeswoman said Queensland Fire and Rescue crews attended the the scene to deal with a diesel spill.
Earlier, Queensland Fire and Rescue Service extinguished a small fire that broke out as a result of the derailment, and worked with an electricity company to fix electrical lines that had been knocked down.
A spokesperson said the line between Gladstone and Rockhampton was expected to reopen next week and all Queensland Rail travel services on the line would continue operating, with a combination of rail and buses transporting customers to their destination.
Investigations into the cause of the derailment are ongoing.
