Truck washdown facility confirmed in council budget

GLADSTONE Regional Council has confirmed the construction of a two-bay heavy truck washdown facility at Aldoga, about 25km north-west of Gladstone.

Council received $3 million in funding for the project from proponents GLNG and APLNG, with $2 million allocated in the 2015/16 Budget for construction of the facilities on Aldoga Drive.

Council's environment portfolio spokesman Col Chapman welcomed the project to provide a public washdown area for trucks and machinery in a bid to control the spread of noxious weeds across the region.

"A washdown facility in this area will benefit rural landholders and industry to reduce the potential spread of weeds and other contaminants by vehicles travelling between sites throughout the area," Cr Chapman said.

"We expect the facility to service a wide range of trucks and heavy machinery, like council's existing washdown facility at Calliope, and those in other shires throughout Central Queensland."

Cr Chapman said a preferred greenfield site had been selected on a section of council road reserve on Aldoga Drive.

However, approval would be required to slightly realign the land boundary into the Gladstone State Development Area.

"The site will also accommodate the expansion of the facility to include a third washdown bay in the future," he said.

Cr Chapman said the remaining $1 million in LNG funding would contribute to council's future operating costs at the washdown facility, funding for weed programs and assistance for landholders adjacent to the corridor.

"With detailed design soon to be undertaken, council will call for tenders in late 2015 with construction expected to begin in early 2016 and take about six months to complete," he said.
