A TRUCK driver has lost his licence for 15 months and been fined more than $1000 for a near miss with car as he overtook another road train near Port Augusta.

The dangerous overtake was captured on dash cam as the driver had to take evasive action to avoid careening into the truck.

Jason Leigh Bartlett, 45, appeared in the Mount Gambier Magistrates Court last week on charges of dangerous driving and overtaking a vehicle when it was not safe to do so.

He was fined $1000 and had his licence suspended for 15 months.

Bartlett was temporarily stood down from his position as a driver with Garden Grove, a Golden Grove based gardening supplies company, after the footage was posted on Facebook.

At the time SA Police said members of the Heavy Vehicle Enforcement Section were investigating the "disturbing vision".

"When police receive such footage they will view it in order to ascertain what offences have been committed and if the parties involved can be identified and prosecuted," the statement said.

Police called for any member of the public who observes unsafe driving to phone 131444 and lodge a Traffic Watch Complaint.

"It is also a timely reminder to all drivers that there are many eyes out there watching them, not only the police. Drivers can be filmed anywhere, anytime which increases their chances of being caught doing the wrong thing on the roads."
