Toolooa St crossing battle leaves councillors puzzled
IF IT looks like a pedestrian crossing, smells like a pedestrian crossing, it is a pedestrian crossing, but not so the Toolooa St crossing.
The crossing gives motorists right of way over pedestrians.
Gladstone Regional Council is set to change its appearance after numerous complaints.
Council's director of engineer services Paul Keech said in Tuesday's meeting they would have to bring the crossing up to standard.
"If it looks like a pedestrian crossing, smells like a pedestrian crossing then it is a pedestrian crossing," he said.
"We will have to change how it looks so people aren't confused."
Deputy mayor Matt Burnett didn't support the recommendation.
"To spend $28,000 on something that has not been a problem is black spot funding," he said.
"People will only speed through there if it is changed."
Councillor Rick Hansen said they had no option but to change it to bring it up to standard.
