Gogglebox gives the Serena controversy a serve
THE Serena Williams match against Naomi Osaka in the US Open finals was going to be significant, no matter whose side you were on.
If Williams won she'd be one step closer to beating Margaret Court's grand slam record.
If Osaka came up trumps, she'd be the first Japanese-born woman to win a US Open title.
Of course, by the end of the two-set match, the only performance everyone was talking about was Williams's on-court antics and her clash with chair umpire Carlos Ramos.
Symon kicks off the conversation on tonight's Gogglebox, pointing out the obvious to mate Adam.

"Serena had a tanty," he says. "Like toys out of the cot!"
"Man, I love seeing rackets get broken," he adds, thrilled.
"She's under a lot of pressure to win her major," Adam sympathises.

Meanwhile, Wayne and Tom aren't so bothered by all the fuss.
Serena's outfit, on the other hand, is another matter …
"If I was going to be upset, it would be (because of) that sh*t costume you're wearing," blurts Tom, wearing a salmon-coloured T-shirt with dragon flies on it. "It's horrible!"

Matty, Sarah Marie and Jad are all smiles, too. Particularly when umpire Ramos hands Williams a game penalty.
"He's like a parking inspector - cops the abuse and says, 'OK, I'm going to f**k your life some more,'" says Jad, pleased as punch.
Anastasia, looking resplendent in an op shop blanket, isn't having any of Williams's claims she was simply fighting for women's right and women's equality at the post-game press conference.

"No, you're not! You were just a sore loser because you lost!"
When Williams boiled it all down to sexism, Gogglebox turned into a powder keg - and it was giving off some serious sparks.
"How was it a sexist remark?" questions Keith.
"Because guys do it all the time," shouts Vestal over at The Delpechita household.

Then the cartoon by the Herald Sun artist Mark Knight entered the debate.
"Are we still talking about this," chips in Tom.
"This is sh*tting me to tears," says Grant.
"That's awful," says Isabelle. Mum Kerry agrees.
"I don't know what the big deal is?" says Wayne.

"How is that racist?" questions Wendell.
"That's caricature, isn't it?" says Grant.
"That looks like golliwog," says Kerry. "That's not right."
"You know what I found the most upsetting about it," says Tom.
"We're still talking about sport!"
Gogglebox airs Wednesday at 7.30pm on Foxtel's Lifestyle and Thursday at 8.45pm on Channel 10.
