This final opportunity is not to be missed tomorrow night
NRL: Arguably Australia's best sport icon is in town.
Recently retired North Queensland Cowboys legend Johnathan Thurston will entertain the rugby league faithful tomorrow at the Gladstone Entertainment Convention Centre.
Among those who will attend is Gladstone Rugby League president Richard Duff.
While 'JT's' on-field feats have been well-documented, Duff said what the player has done and continues to do, does not go unnoticed and goes beyond the rugby league landscape.
"It's just a great opportunity not to be missed and great for the community," he said.
"He's very diverse with what he does and he's very educational about what he does.
"He's just a role model who has had a few issues earlier in his career."
Duff highlighted the different legacies that Thurston had left.
"Things like when he threw his helmet and boots to the crowd," he said.
"The other players have now followed and even with his kicking for goal."
Thurston was also known for giving away his kicking tee to the ball boy.
And his legendary status grew after he kicked the winning field goal in the NRL grand final against Brisbane Broncos in 2015.
A GECC spokesperson said 307 tickets were left, which was somewhat of a surprise, but that she expected a late flurry tomorrow.
"It's just this time of the year and I do think there will be some walk-ins at the door," she said.
"It's definitely a privilege to have someone like Johnathan Thurston here."
