Civil construction begins on $120m housing development

THE first dozers have only just arrived - but developers behind The Sands residential estate are confident that buyers will be next.

The $120 million housing development in Tannum Sands began construction of stage 1A recently, with works by civil contractors Shadforths driving interest from home buyers and builders.

Developer Lyons Residential, the company which is also delivering Gladstone's Stockwood Estate, has 44 lots in for release in the current stage.

The Sands sales manager Geoff Coleman said residents would have access to an exclusive, self-contained community with lifestyle lots, averaging 924sq m in Stage 1A.

Land is priced from $235,000.

The project plan includes a town centre, with a supermarket, retirement village, community centre, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, a medical centre and a private primary and secondary school.

While those features are slated for a later stage in the project, the developer has said works could start by the end of this year if Gladstone Regional Council fast-tracks investigations on a second bridge between Boyne Island and Tannum Sands.

The Sands development includes 2000 approved lots across all stages.
