Suspected chemical odour at school

FIREFIGHTERS have commended the efforts of Kin Kora State School teachers and staff after a suspected chemical odour today.

Teachers and staff evacuated the school and cordoned off the area after a suspicious chemical odour was discovered in a photocopying room around 11.30am.

Gladstone firefighters attended the scene and carried out an atmospheric monitoring, which resulted in no significant readings.

Station officer Graham Peever said firefighters were unable to identify where the source of the odour was coming from and what it was, and due to the equipment not returning any significant readings, they deemed the area safe.

"The school did an excellent job of immediately evacuating the kids and cordoning off the area," he said.

Mr Peever said the school had done this before the firefighters arrived.
