Govt buys Boles St site for social housing development

ANOTHER social housing development has been earmarked for Gladstone, with a Boles St property bought by the State Government last month.

While initial proposals suggest the facility will provide social housing accommodation, the final use of the site is still to be determined.

Last month Member for Gladstone Liz Cunningham revealed the State Government's decision to purchase a block of land under the Federal Government's National Partnership Agreement on Mental Health.

Under the National Health Reform,  state and federal governments have agreed to work in partnership to fund 50% of growth in public hospital services in the community.

It's believed the apartments will house people living with mental illness.

But A Department of Housing and Public Works spokesperson said the facility would be occupied by tenants from the social housing register.
