Southeasters augur well for swell over the weekend

THERE'S been a few little waves around during the week and hopefully something left over for the weekend.

The wind has gone around to the southeast and that usually means a bit of swell - even if it is just wind swell it is better than nothing.

We do need some rain and there might be a few showers over the weekend as well, but mostly the weather is looking good for the beach and not too hot yet.

The water is clean and warming up quickly.

Tide N Turn Boardriders

THE boys and girls from Tide N Turn Boardriders are holding their monthly club contest down at the main beach at Agnes Water today, so if you're not already there, head down for a look.

Everybody is starting to think about the surf season and entry forms are already out for the 2014 Reef2Beach Longboard Classic.

This year we will hold the comp to coincide with the Agnes Water Blues and Roots Festival (February 28-March 2) and it will be a huge weekend.

World stage

OVERSEAS, the contest scene is getting pretty exciting as the World Championship Tour and World Qualifying Series wind up.

While the WCT crown will be decided at Pipeline in Hawaii in December, there are still quite a few surfers fighting for survival in Prime and Star events.

The Billabong Pro at Cascais, Portugal, will finish this weekend with several surfers seeking enough points to requalify through the world rankings.

And then the Triple Crown begins in Hawaii.

I was lucky enough to be at Pipe last year when Parko (Joel Parkinson) won his first world title and hopefully it will be Mick's (Fanning) turn this year.

It's between Fanning and (Kelly) Slater with Mick only needing a reasonable finish whereas Slater has to win it.
