Olympic pitcher sharing softball wisdom at clinic
THERE is plenty happening in the field of softball in Gladstone.
In a boost for Gladstone representative players ahead of some important events Australian Olympic pitcher Tanya Harding will be conducting a clinic on December 15 and 16 as part of the Champions Softball Academy.
Port Curtis Regional Academy administrator Tania Fanning said it was brilliant to have someone of Harding's standing passing on her expertise to the region's up-and-coming softballers.
"I think it's great to have an Olympian, Tanya Harding, coming down to show off her medals," Fanning said.
"The kids are really keen for her to come and are really looking forward to it."
Harding will be focusing on ensuring that the representative youngsters will come out of the two-day clinic much the wiser with key facets of the game such as batting, fielding, pitching and catching.
Fanning said the clinics were booked out.
"But anyone is more than welcome to meet an Olympic champion," she said.
"The clinics also come as great preparations for the under-15 state titles next year in April as well as the national titles for our under-15, 17s and 19s next month."
Brisbane-born Harding represented Australia in four consecutive summer Olympics from 1996.
She was a part of the bronze medal-winning Aussie teams in 1996, 2000 and 2008 and a silver medal in 2004.
The Queenslander was ranked in the top five pitchers in the world for more than a decade.
