Nervous search after 3.6m python leaves calling card
Wendy Roscoe shared this tale after seeing our story about a 5m python found in Cairns:
WE discovered this huge snake skin on our rear deck, wrapped in and around the side rails.
My husband discovered it when he went outside to cover our bird.
The house we were living in was our home in Boyne Island. We lived near bushland off Sayre Cres.
We had sold the property and were waiting out the settlement period when we discovered it. It measured about 3.6m.
I had my hubby, Chris, and daughter, Maddie, lay alongside for comparison.
Chris is 188cm and Maddie is 175cm.
At first we were terrified, the fear of not knowing where this huge animal was.
We spoke to a vet from Bondi Vets. He said keep our pets locked up!
We had lived in that house for six years.
During that time we had three snakes enter our home and three more found outside.
Of the three inside, they were all non-venomous pythons. The outside ones were two pythons and an eastern brown.
Chris managed to collect them and take them further bush.
All except the feisty one inside, which was caught by Mike the snake catcher.
We also lost two birds to snakes, both possibly from the same python: our beautiful yellow cockatiel, Mango, and our very clever little blue quaker, Dobbie.
I am not afraid of snakes as we had a children's python when my son was 13, but I have to say, I was relieved when we moved out of the area.
I am a lover of all creatures, however a python as big as the skin we found is enough to scare anyone away.
Oh, and I did let the new owners know about the huge python skin!
