Simple things add up to stylish, comfortable display home
SOMEONE once said, life's pleasures often lie in the simplest things - with simplicity you derive humility, wisdom and happiness.
For G&D Lawrie Builder's current display home, this is certainly the case.
Finance and personal assistant Kersia McEwan said the display home on Sundowner Road was intended to be simple and modern.
"We just wanted something simple that would showcase our work on a daily basis," she said. "An everyday house that people would feel comfortable living in."
The display home is in the Hillclose affordable housing estate.
Ms McEwan said they wanted to build a property that was easy to take their customers through.
"Then they can see exactly what they're getting," she said.
The house is filled with modern furniture, with a general white and dark grey colour-scheme.
Ms McEwan said the furniture was bought from Gladstone Sassi furniture.
"We went for colours that are very modern at the moment. Whites and greys and a little bit of colour in the kitchen tiles."
The lime green splashback behind the cooktop was intended to add a stand-out feature colour in the kitchen.
Some may find a white house too plain, but Ms McEwan said they leaned towards the white rather than browns as per the current trend.
"In the bathroom you can see we left everything pretty simple. In the ensuite it's all grey instead of having glass mosaics everywhere."
A touch of colour was added with accessories.
Walking through to the display home kitchen you find another simplistic style, complemented by a slightly striped grey cupboard.
"When we picked it, it was a new laminex colour," Ms McEwan said. "The grey cupboard was to show people different options that they have.
"People don't have to think that all their cupboards have to be one colour."
When it came to the house tiles, the builders decided on simple gloss white throughout the entire home.
Ms McEwan said a lot of people liked that look at the moment and the added bonus was it also made the place look a lot bigger.
