Gladstone swimmer wins silver at world competition

SWIMMER Jack Ireland has won a silver medal for Australia at the INAS Global Games in Ecuador in the 5x50m relay.

It marks the end of a successful meet for the 16-year-old Gladstone Gladiator who was competing in his first international competition.

Before Jack left to compete, coach Tom Fronek said he believed the experience would put him in good stead for the Rio Olympics in 2016.

"He's improved drastically and he's got the potential," Fronek said.
