Local Sandman duo to raise dust at Great Endeavour Rally

TEAM Sandman is gearing up for the Great Endeavour Rally which gets underway in Caloundra on July 13.

After wanting to get involved in a charitable cause, Jeff and Tanya McClintock decided on the Endeavour Rally as the ideal charity to support.

"We had a look because we wanted to do something to help and we've got a few friends with children who have disabilities so we thought it was a pretty good cause," Mrs McClintock said.

Jeff and Tanya, of JTM Industries, are the driving duo who will guide their genuine fake Sandman north in the rally, to the final destination of Port Douglas on July 20.

The week-long rally will test their vehicle, which has been a labour of love over the past 12 months for the couple.

After testing the panel van at recent one-day events, they are confident the testing inland roads will not break their iconic car.

"We bought it about 12 months ago and have been doing it up over time," Mrs McClintock said.

"It's been tested out at the one day rally in Warwick and it went well."

The classic Holden will be finetuned further at a one-day rally in Dalby next week, where the car will be scrutinised to ensure it is up to the rigours of the event.

On July 6, a week before they embark from Caloundra, the couple will showcase the sandman at the Run in the Sun hotrod event at Calliope Historical Village for those interested in getting a look at a slice of Australian motoring history.

The couple has raised more than $3000 so far and would love to increase that significantly before they begin their journey.

"About $10,000 would be very nice if we could before the rally gets underway," Mrs McClintock said.
