Saints march over top of Swans

THE BITS Saints marched in confident to Yeppoon to play the Swans on Saturday and pulled off a win.

The A-grade men finished up with 11.18 (84) to the Swans' 4.3 (27).

Saints coach Alan Watkin said his players started off slow.

"We were actually losing at quarter-time. We took a while to get going.

"There was a lack of coordination with the new guys."

But the Saints eventually gelled, giving the tough Swans some serious competition.

"They were competitive on the day," Watkin said of the opposition.

"They were in it right to the end. They were tough - they always are."

Before the match Watkin had earmarked Daniel Hawkins as a player to watch.

And he was, scoring best-on-ground honours.

"We had some very good players," Watkin said.

Tasmanian recruit centre forward Luke Hambelton was also given special mention, along with Bradley Symmons, who played in the middle.

"They were brilliant," Watkin said.

And so was local gun Adam Dickinson.
