Rocky one of the most affordable places to buy in CQ

ROCKHAMPTON has beaten its Central Queensland neighbours to the post for the number of houses sold in the past year.

The region has also proved one of the most affordable in Central Queensland to buy or rent a home, according to the latest RP Data spring buyers report.

In the year to date, 2122 houses sold in Rockhampton.

The median house price was $328,855 while the median rent was $350.

Mackay was close behind with 1822 house sales. Mackay's median house value was $421,317 and its median rent $490.

A total of 1645 homes sold in Bundaberg.

In Gladstone, 1034 homes sold in the year to date but median house prices and rents were the most expensive in CQ.

A grand $431,622 was the median house price and $550 was the median asking price for rent.

Rockhampton ranked 11th in the top 20 most active council regions for house sales behind the likes of Brisbane, the Gold Coast, the Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba, Townsville, Cairns and Redland.

When it came to unit sales in active council regions, Rockhampton fell behind its Central Queensland counterparts Mackay and Gladstone, which proved more popular in unit sales.

Rockhampton's median unit value was $285,863; Mackay's was $316,442 and Gladstone's median unit price was $349,604.

In the past year, 212 units sold in the Rockhampton region.
