Rock 'n' rollers get smokin'
ROCK 'n' roll is always a powerful people-mover and it was put to great use recently.
A Rock 'n' Roll Night was held in Calliope on March 10 to raise funds for the Mt Maurice Fire Brigade.
The event was a rocking success.
Renowned Tannum Sands rock 'n' roller Geoff Peepall approached the Mt Maurice Fire Brigade asking if they wanted to hold a fundraiser.
Mt Maurice Fire Brigade first officer David Hodgson said they jumped at the idea.
They were hoping to raise $200-$300 from the event.
Those expectations were blown out of the water by the final total.
Mr Hodgson said he was amazed when the Rock 'n' Roll Night raised $954, far exceeding expectations.
He said he was "over the moon" about the funds, which are desperately needed after a tough 12 months.
Apart from the money, a good time was had by all. There was plenty of dancing, revelling and reminiscing over the classic tunes of their favourite rockers.
