THE Curtis Island ferry set sail on Saturday, October 5, as did a lifelong commitment for Desley Berry and Rick Trevanion.

The couple met one night in Gladstone 14 years ago - a week after groom Rick had first moved to the city.

"We didn't want to rush into marriage," bride Desley laughed.

"We decided after so many years together it was time to seal the deal," she said.

"It surprised us as we got closer to the day just how excited we were to exchange vows."

Forty-five family and friends attended the evening cruise to witness and celebrate the pair's union.

"It was such a fun night with all of our family and friends," Desley said.

"We skipped having speeches, which meant after the signing of papers we could switch straight into party mode."

The couple were eager to ensure the wedding was a casual and relaxed evening, remaining true to their personalities.

"We didn't want a big flash event," Mrs Trevanion said.

"It was just right, the highlight of our night was definitely having all of our family and friends celebrate with us."

Nibbles, beverages and fingerfood were served to guests during the three-hour cruise. Celebrant Judy Whicker officiated at the ceremony.

The happy Gladstone couple were also joined by their children upon the love boat, which returned to land at 9.30pm.

The evening has set the tone for many years of smooth sailing ahead.
