'Ordinary' 18-year-old Reece Mastin promises big night here
HE IS a regular high school boy turned famous, but deep down he's just an ordinary, smitten 18-year-old.
Reece Mastin is fast becoming a star in many eyes and is on his tour, The Beautiful Nightmare, which will be coming to Gladstone on Thursday January 10.
Before taking off on his epic tour, The Observer chatted to this up-and-coming young rocker.
Before auditioning on X-Factor in 2011, Reece, 16 at the time, was just your regular teenager who loved the basic things in life.
Only one thing, apart from his evident flair for fashion, made him stand out: his passion and obvious talent for singing and rock music.
Some could say the X-Factor judges' faces showed it all.
Reece's first audition was undeniably out of this world: confident, crisp, clear and unique.
He not only shocked the judges but the audience as well.
Asking Reece how he feels when he gets on stage, the young star replies hesitantly: "I don't think I can really explain it.
"It's not something I've really ever felt before. It's this high of pure energy.
"Everyone on the stage is just buzzing."
The singer admits he doesn't really get nervous any more, but says celebrity life is not what he expected it to be.
"It's been great," he says.
"It's so full on. I can't pick one best thing. Everything's awesome.
"I always wanted to go and study music, but now I guess I don't really have to."
Since his win on X-Factor 2011, Reece has been non-stop in celebrity life.
His schedule is constantly full and he says he's often rushing around.
"Sometimes it's impossible to get to things done but it's working for now."
Reece says his motivation comes from a love for what he does. "I never thought I'd be able to do what I do on this scale," he said.
Not surprisingly he manages to make time for the woman in his life.
Chatting about his current girlfriend, Home and Away star Rhiannon Fish, it is clear how much the young singer adores the TV celebrity.
"Things are going really well," he says.
Meeting on a Shout It Out film clip, the couple seemed to hit it off instantly and are now living together in Sydney with another roommate.
"I love living in Sydney," he says. "But my family and friends are back in Adelaide."
Thankfully Reece still has the constant support of his family and friends in Adelaide who he visits every few months.
"It's still good to have that support even though they are quite far away," Reece says.
Reece seems ecstatic to amp up the Gladstone community for his big night on Thursday, January 10.
"It's all set up for a really big show, so it should be awesome," he says.
As for the future, there doesn't seem to be any immediate plans to change career paths and fans can breathe a sigh of relief to know that the young rock star plans to continue in his epic music profession.
"Hopefully I'll be doing the same thing, only on a bigger scale," he says.
"I'm seeing about going overseas with it, so we'll see where we go."
