Saints ready to shock the Swans

WATCH out, Yeppoon.

BIT Saints are in town today for the first match of the local Australian rules season.

And they're planning to take on the Swans and win.

A-grade coach Alan Watkins is confident of victory.

About half of his team is made up of new recruits.

"The quality is extreme - they're all senior players from other leagues."

With so many new faces, Watkins is worried the team will struggle to coordinate for the first few games of the season.

Still, he reckons the sheer talent should get the Saints over the line.

Watkins said his boys were warming up to take on the Mudcrabs on May 19.

"That's our focus at the moment."

Reserves coach Lucal Hall also has a slew of fresh players.

With no one on the bench for today's game, there'll be few rotations.

"Even with the lack of numbers, we should still come away with a win," Hall said.

Hall's not discounting the opposition, though.

"They play really well at home," he said.

A-grade coach Alan Watkins said new player Daniel Hawkins was sure to impress in today's match

Hawkins moved from Southport in February

He's played in the State League and the Queensland Country team

"He's certainly the leader and will dominate on game day," Watkins said.
