Fundraiser to help Locky get life-changing spinal surgery
RESIDENTS of Mt Larcom are rallying around a local lad - and they want the region to join the fight.
Locky Levin, born with cerebral palsy, needs an urgent spine operation to prevent his condition from paralysing him.
Against the odds, Locky is still working driving a truck - but he needs help to foot the $50,000 bill for the life-changing treatment.
He can't obtain private health cover because of his pre-existing condition, and he faces a 10-year wait for surgery in the public health system.
Gladstone resident Michelle Byers is secretary of the Locky's Op Appeal, and organising a fundraiser at the Mt Larcom Hotel on Sunday, June 16.
The day starts at midday, and will feature a barbecue, raffles, a mechanical bull and karaoke.
On the same day, supporters are organising a 6am fundraising climb at Mt Larcom, and are looking for more participants.
"The wait on the public system for Locky is at least 10 years - and he simply doesn't have 10 years," Ms Byers said.
Donations can be posted to Locky's Op Appeal, PO Box 1520, Gladstone, and more details can be found on Facebook by searching Locky's Op Appeal.
