MORE than 150 people gathered for the Baffle Creek raft race on Sunday in celebration of how far their community has come since the January floods.
The race was last held in 2010 at the Baffle Creek Tavern.
But after the 2011 floods, major reconstruction started on the badly damaged tavern.
The tavern re-opened in December 2012, before being destroyed again in the floods early this year.
Residents from Baffle Creek, Gladstone, Agnes Water and Bundaberg, who have worked hard all year to co-ordinate Sunday's raft race at a new venue at Flat Rock grounds, were thrilled to see it all finally come together.
The new venue at Flat Rock resulted in a revamping of the traditional race with the addition of two new events, including the 6km canoe/kayak marathon and a 2km stand-up paddleboard race.
Baffle Creek Boat Club member Sabine Holt said it had been a beautiful day with more people attending than expected.
Money raised from the event will go towards recovery efforts and to flood victims.
