Qld Senator touches down in CQ to discuss concerns
QUEENSLAND Senator Glenn Lazarus wants to get to the crux of the issues facing Central Queenslanders.
Mr Lazarus touched down in the Beef Capital yesterday with plans to talk to community leaders and residents about issues facing the region.
In a three-day stay, he will meet with business leaders, visit CQUniversity and hold a community meet and greet tomorrow.
Mr Lazarus said he was looking forward to hearing about the issues impacting the town and finding ways he could help.
"I know there's a major concern on the reduction of cattle intake into Indonesia so I really want to talk to beef producers about that," he said.
"The reduction is going to hurt our beef industry and I think maybe looking at other avenues of export could be a suggestion but I'm sure a lot of local producers will have some great ideas.
"I'll also be visiting CQUniversity which has a great standard of students and degrees so I'm excited to see that campus.
"I know one of the main issues in regional Queensland is mental health and I know regional universities are keen to get some extra research and development funding to combat that."
Mr Lazarus will also hold an open meet and greet tomorrow at Demedios Cafe from 10am to 11.30am and invited members of the public to approach him with any community concerns over a coffee.
