QFRS urges caution over weekend Calliope fire

A VEGETATION fire that started in Calliope on Saturday continued yesterday.

One urban and three rural fire crews attended the slow-moving grass fire south of Mercer Rd and east of Gladstone-Monto Rd.

The fire started about 2.30pm and crews remained on the scene, containing the blaze with back-burning.

A QFS spokesperson said it may continue to burn for a week or two.

"It has been pretty quiet but it may flare up."

There were four fire brigades at the scene on Sunday afternoon.

Residents were asked to keep their doors and windows closed and motorists should drive to conditions due to the smoke.

There is no immediate threat to property however if residents are concerned they should call triple zero (000) immediately.
