Free Gladstone prawns for all at festival to boost industry
PRAWNS from Gladstone Harbour will be cooked and served free at the Harbour Festival.
The seafood snack is a brainchild of the Gladstone Seafood Promotion Fund (GSPF).
A trawler was out in Gladstone Harbour on Wednesday harvesting the prawns.
GSPF chairman Peter Milne said the move would boost confidence in seafood harbour after a controversial two-year period.
"People need to be made aware (that seafood from the harbour is a good product," Mr Milne said.
Not everyone is impressed.
Gladstone Fish Market owner Simon Whittingham said on Wednesday the scheme was using government funds to undercut his business, during one of its busiest times.
The prawns will be available between 10am and 2pm on Friday and Saturday.
