Power Boys on the ball for comp
BASKETBALL: The Gladstone under-18 Power Boys are in Hervey Bay today for the first of three Central District Basketball carnivals.
The Power will come up against tough competition over the two days playing Rockhampton, Bundaberg, Hervey Bay, Emerald and Maryborough. Coach Ray Cooper looked forward to the opportunity to see how the players would stack up against the interstate competition.
"The team is confident and the experience of playing against other centres will be good for them," Cooper said.
"This is the first of three basketball carnivals to play in and after that the centres are then graded to State Classic separate divisions and we will be aiming for Division One."
The team will be led by captains Ben Harvey and Tibah O'Brien.
"Coach Cooper has put us through a tough couple of weeks of training and intense practice games against high quality opponents," Harvey said.
"This has helped us prepare physically and mentally and we are really looking forward to the weekend and seeing our hard work pay off."
O'Brien saw great potential for the squad during the district carnivals.
"I feel very confident in the team and it has a lot of length and a wide range of skills that complement each other nicely and will make us hard to guard" O'Brien said.
The team squad going away is: Tibah O'Brien, Luke Knight, Joe McEldowney, Ben Murdoch, Marley Evans, Jack Small, Raj Mtengezana, Connor Lantry, Thasindu Chandrasekara, Jake Gudgeon and Ben Harvey.
