Royal production the first community show at new centre

A ROYAL production will receive its rightful reception as the first community show to be held at the new Gladstone Entertainment and Convention Centre.

The King and I, a masterpiece from the Bunbury Players, is in its final stages of rehearsal for a November 7 premiere.

Director Beryl Wood said the event was an "extraordinary" community collaboration.

"There is so much talent in Gladstone," Mrs Wood said.

"It is a big community event, with amazing music, dancers, voices and actors."

Belly dancers from Veils of Arabia, dancers from Tamara's School of Dance, an orchestra and 44 cast and crew members will take the stage for three performances, concluding on Saturday, November 9, at 7.30pm.

The King and I has been a labour of love for Mrs Wood, a passionate leader of local theatre productions for the past 20 years.

"We're very excited to showcase our talents, we have a large talented cast with plenty of children involved," she said.

"The good seats are starting to sell out, so make sure to book and support your local community."

Adult tickets are $20, concession and children's tickets cost $18.
