Planning to podium at national gymnastics

ADAM Parker has been to national gymnastics once before and finished first as a team with his Queensland mates.

This time around, the 17-year-old has something even bigger planned.

Coming off the back of two bronze medals at the Queensland Championships, Parker is aiming at some more individual silverware.

"Nationals I am aiming towards an apparatus medal and that would be in either floor or rings," he said.

The two apparatus are where he was successful at the Queensland level.

Ever since he has been spending 22 hours a week mainly focussed on fixing small errors in his performance.

He is also adding some small techniques to his routine which will benefit his already good scores, perhaps pushing him into the top three.

"For floor I plan to add a tumble, so that improves my score straight away," he said.

"Rings I am adding polish and small changes."

Parker will be the only male athlete representing the Gladstone Gymnastics Club when the event kicks off on May 18.
