Pikes Crossing residents pleased as causeway re-opens
PIKES Crossing Rd at the Boyne River Causeway has finally reopened, after extensive works to repair the damage caused by January flooding.
Residents Peter and Carolyn Murdoch have been waiting seven weeks for the works to be completed.
Mr Murdoch said about 12 families were affected by the closure.
With the causeway closed to traffic, residents could only get in and out via a private back road which was opened up by the Gladstone Area Water Board.
"It was annoying, but the causeway needed to be fixed," Mr Murdoch said.
Gladstone Mayor Gail Sellers said the extent of damage required comprehensive work to replace the southern section of the concrete causeway.
"A new concrete deck was created and has returned acceptable concrete test results, allowing the structure to be opened to all vehicles."
Cr Sellers said motorists were still advised to exercise caution and drive slowly on the southern approach to the causeway.
