Gladstone country singer nominated for MusicOz Awards

Country singer wants community feedback on songs for EP

FROM the red carpet, back to Gladstone and set to record an EP - local singer Hayley Marsten is taking her music to the next stage.

And she is encouraging the community to get on board in the collaboration of her upcoming EP.

Pickin' Guitar, Pickin' Banjos and Pickin' Songs will be held at the Gladstone QRI Hall on Friday, December 13 from 6pm.

"I've wanted to put on this event for a while because I've been collating a group of songs from the past couple years; I think I wrote the oldest one when I was 15," she said.

"It's just been hard to find a time. Cheryl Hopkins is probably the reason it's happening -she's helped me with getting the QRI Hall and she'll be running the bar on the night."

Hayley has a deep love for the region, even while she studies her Bachelor of Creative Industries in Music and Entertainment at Brisbane's QUT.

"I really want to get people's feedback on these songs because, at the end of the day, it doesn't matter how much I love the track if nobody wants to buy it."

Hayley was recently nominated for an award at the renowned MusicOz Awards.

"It was great fun," she said.

"I went to a songwriting workshop while I was down there which was really interesting and I met loads of other songwriters.

"I got to walk the red carpet and get interviewed on it."

Hayley didn't make the top 10 in the country music finals but her two songs, recorded in her rumpus room, made it as finalists.

"That made me feel pretty proud," she said.
