A DAY out with grandma started with a trip to McDonald's for Nickson and Alexis Powell.

But it wasn't the drive-thru treatment on Saturday, with the Kin Kora franchise celebrating its recent development with a family fun day.

Nickson, 6 and Alexis, 3, both donned face paint, glitter tattoos and Nickson was armed with a balloon sword.
Grandma Jenny Pieper had her two grandchildren for the weekend, to give their parents a little break.
It was the celebration for the franchise finishing its redevelopment, which saw plenty of families walk through the doors to take part in the festivities.

Balloon twisted swords were almost as popular as the happy meals, with many young boys drawing them for a playful bout.

The Clark's took along their two boys, daughter and her friend to the celebration too.

McDonald's Kin Kora licensees Tony and Adrienne Ward said the restaurant refurbishment included a dining room revamp, new Create Your Taste kiosks, and an upgrade for the building's exterior and meeting room.

Gladstone suppliers Barnes Electrical, East Shores IT, Port City Air Conditioning and Greenscapes Landscaping were contracted to assist with various elements of the renovation.

There were 11 new job positions created from the re-development.

"McDonald's Kin Kora now employs 78 crew members aged between 14 and 75-years-old. It is pleasing to offer

so many people employment opportunities at McDonald's," Tony said.
