Gladstone Xray and Ultrasound closes shop after five years

AFTER five years of servicing the community, Gladstone Xray and Ultrasound is packing up and moving on.

Owner Petra Byrne said she opened the business in 2009 because she saw the need for an extra service in Gladstone.

"It was a combination of a business opportunity and realising that Gladstone didn't really have another option besides the existing practise which was already quite busy," she said.

But now that other services had come on board, it was time for a much needed break.

"I didn't take a holiday in five years, except for one, so it was a bit like a battle of the minds - a bit like a marathon."

A qualified radiographer and sonographer, before Mrs Byrne opened her own business, she worked at the Gladstone Hospital for six years.

As well as the popular 4D imaging packages, Gladstone Xray and Ultrasound offered diagnostic imaging including x-rays, dental, ultrasound and also bone densitometry which measures the strength of bones.

Given the importance to keep the bone densitometry service local, the same machine that Mrs Byrne operated is now located at CQ Radiology at the GP Superclinic.

Mrs Byrne said she wanted to thank everyone who had supported her over the years.
