Passersby lift car off Warrego Hwy crash victim

POLICE are praising the efforts of a group of men who lifted a car off a 60-year-old crash victim.

Roma police shift supervisor Sergeant Greg Benfer said group came across the stricken man and his 15-year-old boy passenger about 10km east of Yuleba on the Warrego about 10.30pm last night.

The Central Queensland man was trapped under the chassis near the real wheel after the ute had rolled.

"Onlookers physically lifted the vehicle off him," Sgt Benfer said.

"It is a great act.

"Otherwise I am certain it would have been a lot worse."

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said the man was trapped for about 10 minutes.

He was taken to Roma Hospital before being flown by the Royal Flying Doctor Service to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane to be treated for severe chest injuries.

He remained in a critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit this morning.

The 15-year-old boy was taken to Roma Hospital with minor injuries.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
