Gladstone team ready to rally in trusty Sandman
CALLIOPE couple Jeff and Tanya McClintock have been revving up for the Great Endeavour Rally, with victory at a one-day event in Dalby recently.
"The car went really well in Dalby. We actually came first for the day which was a great result for us," Mrs McClintock said.
The pair was undergoing final preparations for the week-long rally, which starts in Caloundra on July 13 and takes over 150 entrants on a week of adventure through rugged terrain most would not travel.
Their chariot is an iconic Holden Sandman, and after their Dalby success, the local team was confident the vehicle would survive the rigours of the rally.
As well as visiting beautiful country like the Gulf Savannah and the far northern tropics, the Great Endeavour Rally gathered funds for people with disabilities through the Endeavour Foundation.
To date, the organisation had raised more than $5 million and Jeff and Tanya were doing their bit.
"We're travelling pretty well - we've got over $5500 raised at the moment and we haven't finished fundraising yet," Mrs McClintock said.
"We'll have the car out at the Calliope Historical Village this Saturday for the hot-rod show and we'll have donation tins set up there for people to help our cause."
The couple was excited as the rally approached, and after some minor adjustments in Dalby their car was nearly ready to tackle the course.
"We'll head down to Caloundra the day before and finish getting the car scrutinised to make sure we've got all the necessary safety equipment required," Mrs McClintock said.
"Jeff and I are really looking forward to it."
