UPDATE 9am: A fisheries worker has been bashed with a hammer after interrupting two people trying to break into a car, according to police.

Sunshine Coast police district duty officer Senior Sergeant John Revell said the victim had just arrived for work when he came across at least two men acting suspiciously in the De Brett Seafood car park on Parkyn Parade.

"These two guys appeared to be breaking into a vehicle," Snr Sgt Revell said.

"He has challenged them and they have assaulted him as a result of that.

"One of them has hit him with a hammer."

The victim was taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital for treatment of a gash to his head.

He has since been discharged from care.

Snr Sgt Revell said a nearby worker helped the victim at the Mooloolaba scene as the attackers fled.

He said police had registration details of their car and were searching for a red Nissan Pulsar.

UPDATE 8.30am: A carpark argument has escalated to violence in an early morning assault at the spit in Mooloolaba.

A forensic police officer said she had finished gathering evidence from the De Brett Seafood carpark two hours after Tuesday morning's attack.

A nearby worker said he understood a man had been bashed with an implement after "having words" with at least two other men.

Police were called to the Parkyn Parade scene shortly before 6am.

A staff member from De Brett Seafood said she was aware of the incident but no one from her company had witnessed it.

She said De Brett Seafood shared the carpark with other businesses including Fisheries on the Spit and Aussie Red Crab.

Investigations are continuing. 

UPDATE 7.10am: Police are questioning witnesses and canvassing the area after an alleged hammer attack left a fisherman in hospital with head injuries. 

Police have not made any arrests over the incident this morning at Parkyn Pde, Mooloolaba, near Fisheries on the Spit.

The fisherman was taken to hospital after he was allegedly attacked by two men armed with a hammer about 5.40am.

BREAKING 6.30am: Two men have reportedly attacked a fisherman with a hammer in a major Sunshine Coast tourism precinct, leaving him with head and hand wounds.

Police and paramedics were called to Parkyn Pde, Mooloolaba at 5.44am after reports of an assault near Fisheries on the Spit.

The fisherman has been taken to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

It is not yet clear whether police have identified or caught the men involved.
