Our future strong
THE Gladstone Observer and its community newspaper the Community Advocate are reaching about seven out of 10 locals - reinforcing the strong future of one of the region's biggest employers.
Australian Regional Media CEO Warren Bright said there was a "significant difference" between regional media companies and that of Fairfax and News Ltd, which this week announced major restructures and job losses.
"It is a profitable business for us. We are still selling close to 800,000 newspapers a week (across Queensland and NSW)," Mr Bright said.
The Observer's website receives more than 440,000 page views a month.
Editor Meredith Papavasiliou said while people loved catching up with breaking news on The Observer's website, they turned to the newspaper for more depth, features and liftouts.
